![]() Now that we have a basic understanding of how the TV switches modes depending on the input, the next thing you want to do for your Xbox is to make sure you have the correct settings set for its HDMI port when the Xbox is on. So the Xbox HDMI port will have its own settings separate from other HDMI ports and apps, but also depending on the content (SDR, HDR, Dolby Vision, etc.). The LG CX will remember your custom picture settings based on each app and input as well as the signal type being sent. There is also a way to go directly to change picture modes quickly, but I'm not sure if you can do it on the magic remote or if you need some sort of universal remote like a Logitech Harmony. Quick tip, hold down the settings button on the remote to go directly to advanced picture settings. ![]() SDR will have Expert (Dark Room) available in quick picture mode settings while HDR content will pop up with the HDR label for a few seconds at the top right when it is first loaded and you will see Cinema mode in picture settings instead of Expert, etc. When in SDR mode (which sometimes the LG CX will label "HDR picture mode" for some reason depending on what's being displayed) you will have different picture options available and remembered settings than when in HDR mode. ![]() When you play most games, the TV mode switches to HDR mode instead (either because the game is created to be HDR or because of the automatic HDR the Series X console can apply to most games and is something the Xbox does on a game-by-game basis and it is usually pretty well done as an algorithmic application of HDR from MS and not created by the game developer). On the Xbox dashboard, the picture is displayed in SDR. It's only on by default so they can advertise "green" power consumption. My recommendations are as follows: First of all, make sure you turn off Energy Saving mode on your TV settings. Plus, enabling it will add latency (not good for gaming) and disable some features on the TV. LG explains it on the following page on the Definitions tab: I personally don't use that mode and don't recommend it (I don't recommend standard or vivid modes either). It is supposed to analyze SDR color signals and guess what it would look like in HDR with a much broader color range available to it. "HDR Effect" is simply a preset picture mode on some LG TVs (and only available in some picture modes), similar to Sports, Vivid, Standard, etc.
